I ran a 5k yesterday morning at the Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio. This represents this first 5k I have done in over 2 years. I have not been running. Yesterday, I finished a full two-minutes faster (29:00) than my previous personal best (31:04). I am still incredibly slow, but it is improvement.

After some lunch and shopping, we headed to the Wright State University pool. I swam 400 yards and played with the kids. I hope to be swimming 1,000 yards by May.

Nothing nice to say... so... peace out.

You get the bullet point version:
• 70 mph winds were incredible.
• We had no electricity for about 26 hours.
• I made grilled cheese sandwhiches on a charcoal grill. Not good.
• I competed in a triathlon. Well, I was part of a team. I rode the (20k) bike portion of the race. My time ranked 65th out of 195. We took first in the team coed division.
• A 47-year-old woman who was carrying a little extra "baggage" blew past me like I was standing still. That was pretty humbling.

mini omega We wrapped up week 2 of the junior high football season. We need to improve in all facets of the game. We are not even playing at a competitive level. Our football games look like a Samoa Joe vs. Masked Avenger III match. It is a total squash job from the opening bell.

Fall quarter is underway. I am only taking one class this quarter. Football takes up a lot of my time. The class is going to be a snoozer. The professor is old and a wee bit out of touch. She spent an hour of the first class discussing 5 pages of the syllabus. She conducted the entire class using an overhead projector... Frightening.

Out of 55 competitors, MO placed 39th in the swim, 5th in the bike, and 5th in the run. He placed 5th in his age group and 11th overall. He is a really ... really ... poor swimmer.

MO is on a bit of a hiatus at the moment. At football practice on Tuesday, he was on the bad side of a helmet to helmet collision. He was dizzy and began to vomit. We took him to Children's Hospital. MO has a grade 2 concussion. His brain needs to heal. He is going to be out of commission for at least a couple of weeks.

Grueling weekend. The boy did well in his triathlon on Saturday. We are still trying to find out how he placed. It appears that he finished in or close to the top 3 in his division. That is quite an accomplishment since he was near the end of the pack after the swim. We made it home in time for his football game. He played... "ok". He had a nice carry for about 20 yards. He took some late game reps at quarterback. The team won by a score of 6-0.

We volunteered at a 10-mile race on Saturday morning. The course was rough to say the least. There were some amazing runners competing. I did a mile and a half run with Mini-Omega yesterday morning. I did a two point two mile run with MO this morning. My knee is a bit tight. My back is a bit stiff. It felt good to get out of the house and move around. I have another week before fall quarter classes begin. I am trying to relax and enjoy myself.

This upcoming weekend will be a busy one. On Friday evening, the boy and I are heading up to Sandusky to visit family. On Saturday morning, MO is competing in his second youth triathlon. This race is in Akron. Immediately following the race, we head home. MO has a football game in the afternoon.
