I am not sure how to take this... largely because I don't even know what language it is... I am guessing Japanese... anyway, the power of the world wide web... someone halfway across the world has watched Mini-Mattis's agility ladder and linked to it - click here.

7th Grade football season wrapped up for me last night. We finished out on an extremely disappointing note. We were set to play a very well coached, well-disciplined team. My players have faced this team in previous seasons and been beaten soundly.

Yesterday, we simply did not respond. We went out on the field and just got our lunch handed to us from beginning to end. We didn't block. We didn't tackle. Everything else that happened is a result of poor blocking and tackling.

We have been busting our tails for the past 3 months. To finish on that note was... disappointing in a way that I will not soon forget.

The 8th Grade has a game tomorrow. Tomorrow evenings game will be a large challenge. I hope they respond to the challenge better than the 7th Grade team did. The 8th Grade team finishes up their season next week.

2007.10.02

I feel awful. I mean there is dog pooh for breakfast and I am going to ask for seconds - awful. That is how bad I feel. I have been pushing a little too hard for a little too long.

I am missing time at work, football and wrestling. On a related note, it has been a couple of days since I have been able to hold down solid foods. I am hoping to turn the corner on that... I like food.

The boy had a football game on Saturday. It was a rough day for the team. The team falls to 3-1 after the 19-0 shacking. There are a couple of plays where Mini-Mattis could have done things a bit differently. But, that is part of the growing and learning process. We reviewed the game film several times. He knows what he needs to do.

Click here to see some YouTube video of the basic fundamental footwork drills that I do with Mini-Mattis. Mini-Mattis has heavy feet. Footwork does not come naturally to him. He has to practice the steps over and over to develop the coordination to properly repeat the pattern.

Mini-Mattis has been using an agility ladder for the past year. We don't do it for very long. We spend 15 or 20-minutes running through the various drills. I think he is reaping the benefits of his hard work.

Mini-Mattis did have one highlight (Click here) from this past Saturday's game. He was at quarterback, took the snap, opened to his right and waited for the running back. The running back had gone to the left. Mini-Mattis realized that he was on his own and took off. Mini-Mattis juked 2 defenders well enough that they simply fell down. He dragged a couple more kids for a few yards. All total, the sixth defender was able to finally help bring Mini-Mattis down. Mini-Mattis gained 12-yards and a hard fought first down in the process.

I digress. I feel awful. Time to go eat some more dog poop and call it a day.
