My son had a good night at indoor soccer. He shot from midfield and put it in upper corner to score the teams first goal of the night. Later, he manuevered through traffic and drilled a left-footed goal. The boy accounted for 3 points. The team went on to win 9-0.

The boy is almost 13-years-old. I am trying to expose him to some good movies from before his time. Last night, we watched Forrest Gump. Earlier in the week we watched Shaun of the Dead. Both movies are classics in a manner of speaking.

I watched a really interesting ESPN piece on 2010/2011 Super Bowl Champion Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is candidate for league MVP. He is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. The interesting part is... coming out of high school, no division 1 college offered him a scholarship. He had piles and piles of rejection letters. He ended up going to a prep school for a year to get the attention of division 1 colleges. Still no bites. Then, a scout came to watch film on a prep school wide receiver and "discovered" Aaron Rodgers. He believes that he was not recruited by division 1 colleges because coaches put too much emphasis on height, weight, 40-times, and bench press. Very interesting to see that it has not been an easy path for Aaron Rodgers.

Similarly, RB Danny Woodhead played 4 years of division 2 football because NO division 1 teams offered him a scholarship. He went undrafted. He was signed by the New York Jets, tore his ACL, played a limited role, and was cut. Danny now plays for the New England Patriots and could wind up in the Super Bowl. Click here for a video piece on Danny Woodhead.

Over the weekend, my son and I went to the theater and watched the new Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. It is cool that he is reaching an age where we can share these kinds of movies. I am reaching my thresh hold for "Fluffy Bunnies and The Frog That Wouldn't Share" movies.

Last night was amazing. Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the first play of overtime. I grew up a Cleveland Browns fan. I grew up with The Drive and The Fumble. I grew up despising the Denver Broncos. Tim Tebow is an amazing young man. Last night, I cheered for the Broncos. Only God knows if he will end up as a long-term NFL QB, but last night he got the job done in amazing fashion and praised God every step of the way. Very cool. Last week, my son traded me his Best Buy gift card so he could buy Tim Tebow's book Through My Eyes. He is reading it and highlighting items throughout. He is all-in on Tebow-mania.

Last night, leading up to the ball dropping, I watched Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. The movie is hilarious in the same vein as Shaun of the Dead. It was crazy awesome.

Friday, I met up with Cyrus Poe for a final time in 2011. The wings were good, the stories were better. However, one thing caught my attention on the TV behind me, it was an ESPN piece honoring Austin Box, an Oklahoma Sooners linebacker. As a parent of a football player and as a parent who has lost a son, the piece tough to watch.

Last week, I resigned my position as strength and conditioning coach. I am grateful for the few years I was permitted to serve in that capacity. I am anxious to see what doors God will open next.

For Christmas, I received a Kindle Fire. At first, I wasn't sure that I would use it very much. I was wrong. I use it a ton each day. I can stream Netflix to it. I can watch movies for free through Amazon Prime. I can play an assortment of games, read books, etc. It rates pretty high on the cool for nerds scale.
