All-American Rejects "Gives You Hell" is stuck in my head. I don't know why. We will leave it at that.

On Saturday, the family participated in the Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon. This represented our second year at this event. I felt good through the 400 meter swim. I stayed with the boy during the 13 mile bike ride. The 3.1 mile run was rough.

Between teaching, the weight room, classes, and family, my training is taking a hit. There are only so many hours in the day. As it was, I only got 4.5 hours of sleep leading up to the triathlon.

Are politicians capable of giving straight forward answers? Last week, at a town hall meeting, a woman asked President Obama, "Why her taxes are so high?" Obama's response lasted 17-minutes and used more than 2,500 words. Click here to watch part one of his answer.

Congressman Phil Hare (Congress D-IL) doesn't care what the constitution says. Click here to watch him "defend" government run health care as opposed to the constitution.

That may be slightly more amusing than Hank Johnson (Congress D-GA) suggesting that the Island of Guam might capsize... seriously. Click here for video of the congressman worrying that an island may flip over due to over-population.

The hilarity begins...
Government health care was pushed through by "any means necessary". Why was it pushed through? To lower the cost of health insurance coverage. That answer sounds awesome. I wish that were true. The reality is that the bill does nothing to lower costs.

One week after the bill has passed, AT&T, Verizon, Catepillar, and John Deere have all notified employees that layoffs or reductions in health benefits are in the near future. The health care bill levies many new taxes against businesses. Most businesses run a thin line between profit and deficit. The new taxes will force many companies to lay off employees to stay afloat. More than 130 economists have predicted that the legislation will discourage companies from hiring more workers and will cause reduced hours and wages for those already employed. (AT&T sees $1 billion healthcare related charge and Caterpillar: Health care bill would cost it $100M)

The hilarious part to this is that Democratic legislators are pretending to be surprised by all of this. The sad part is, most legislators live in a shell. They have $10 in the bank and write $50 worth of checks (and get away with it) so they assume everyone else can do the same thing.
