Broken Down and Old...

A couple of weeks ago, I competed in the East Fork Lake Triathlon. I nearly drowned on the swim. I was exhausted when I got out of the water and ran up the hill toward my bike. As I approached the top of the hill, I misjudged the curb. My left foot did not clear the curb. I ended up kicking the curb. I completed the 12.4 mile bike and 3.1 mile before realizing how bad my foot hurt. I took my sock and shoe off to see a giant, swollen toe. I broke my toe. I have been hobbling around since the race trying not to put any pressure through the toe or bend it.

This morning, I was in the weight room trying to take plates off of the leg press for one of the young athletes. I took the 100 lb. plate off and rolled it off to the side. Then, the plate fell, directly on my right foot. The pain was intense and immediate. I walked over to a bench and sat down. After a few minutes, the pain had decreased to the point that I was able to walk. After lifting and football practice, I came home and took my shoe off. I have a big red spot on top of my foot and bruising along the side and bottom of my foot. I think I might have broken my right foot.

We spent all weekend in the car for a triathlon that my wife and son did. My back is ridiculously stiff. I am feeling old, really old.

High school football two-a-days are now over. We have a scrimmage on Friday. Then, next week, it is for real as we enter week 1 of the regular season. This is going to be fun and challenging season. Football season is always the most fun and stressful time of the year. The highs get higher and the lows get lower.

As a side note, Cie took second place in the 14 & under division of the Vermillion Harbour Triathlon this past weekend and set a new personal record at the same time.
