On Sunday morning, my son and I competed in the
Fit To Fight Triathlon. I did completed the men's race: 400 yard swim, 20k bike, 5 run. My son, Cie completed the kid distances: 100 yard swim, 5k bike, 1k run.
This triathlon featured a pool swim with a staggered start. So, the kids stood in a line and waited for their turn to get in the pool. It really didn't matter how long the kid waited in line, their time didn't begin until they were in the pool. Cie wanted to be near the front. He was third in line. The girl in front of him did not want to get passed, so she allowed Cie to move ahead of her in the line to be the second in line.
As the 80+ kids stood in line waiting for the start of the race, a mom stepped forward. She pointed toward Cie. She said in a loud voice for everyone to hear, "Just so you know, the kid in the DT3 uniform beat me last week at the Caesar Creek Triathlon."
The collective jaws of the parents and participants dropped. It was hilarious.
At the end of the race, the announcer took a few moments to talk about the fact that Cie has been competing in many adult triathlons and that this was probably not much more than a warm-up for him. Cie's goal was finish in under 22:00. He completed the race in 20:38. By the grace of God, Cie took first overall in the kids division.
It was a fun race.
