I plan to race... 100 miles.

Cie's effort at the Coffman YMCA Youth Triathlon earned him first place.

Sitting at the dinner table on Sunday evening, our 10-year-old son said something interesting. We were talking about trail races and triathlons. He said, "I want to race 100-miles this year."

The front page of the website lists all of the races we have done in 2009. It is pretty easy to check and see how many miles our Young Lion has recorded. I just pulled out the calculator and did the math. Our 10-year-old son has logged 40.59 miles of running during the first 5 and a half months of the year. He will likely come very close to running 100 miles in 2009.

On a similar note, he has swam 4,815 yards during races in 2009. To convert that into a a more friendly number, our 10-year-old son has competitively swam 2.74 miles in 2009. It is really hard to swim a mile. For the first time, this summer, Cie will swim as part of a swim team. He will be spending a lot of time in the pool this summer.

While we are at, the boy has recorded just over 26 miles of racing on his bike in 2009. The longest race was the Miami University Triathlon where he biked 13 miles (21 K).

As of the middle of May, with swim, bike, and run Cie has recorded just over 69 miles of racing. That is crazy.

He and I are going to participate in some open-water swim triathlons. We found him a women's extra small wet suit to help keep him safe in open water. I plan to swim beside him for as long as possible, until he takes off and leaves me in the dust.

It is shaping up to be a fun summer.
