Happy Holidays

2008.12.28
I have a few things to add quickly so here goes.

I hope everyone had a merry Christmas. I did a few things I haven't done before. I am not a handy person. I know nothing about cars. This week, I replaced my rear view mirror, turn signal bulb, and wiper blades. In the past, I would have dropped the car off at the dealership and had someone else do the work. It was easy; I finished in less than 5-minutes. I am like the Bob Villa of cars or something.

I am headed out of town Monday morning. My Christmas present is a vacation to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. My wife and I will spend a few days relaxing and taking in the Smoky Mountains.

It was 70° yesterday, Mini-Omega and I went for a 1.5-mile run. Mo stayed with me for the first three quarters of a mile. Then, he got bored. He wanted to push harder. He finished in 13-minutes. I finished in 15-minutes. Yes, I am a terribly slow runner. In three quarters of a mile, he was able to put 2-minutes of distance between us.

So, after the run, Mo and I worked out. At the conclusion of the work out, we did a blow out set. I told Mo to do as many push-ups on his knees as possible without stopping. I figured he would do 25 or 30. When he got to 70, I told him that he could stop. He said, "Nah, I want to get to 100." and he did.

One of the most important lessons I try to teach as a parent is - "don't set limits on what you are capable of doing."

It is such a joy to see that lesson is taking root in him.
