Motor City Machine Guns

2007.12.26
Horrible. Just freaking horrible.
I try not to criticize TNA a great deal. I try to watch with my son and have fun with it. But, sometimes things are just so overwhelmingly insane that I cannot help but vent. This is one of those times. First, let's go back in time...

Think back a long time ago when Goldberg was still unbeaten in WCW. Goldberg was a monster. He destroyed everything in his path. Fans absolutely loved him. Fans chanted his name. Goldberg was easily the top "good guy" in the promotion. He was a homegrown talent. Bill Goldberg was the ONE wrestler that WCW could really hang their hat on and say, "Look what we made. Yippee."

Now, imagine... if instead of winning the WCW World Title... Goldberg was forced to keep beating guys like Scott Hall and Konnan. Then, after six months of that, Goldberg turned into a jerk and became a heel while Wolfpack (4 life) Scott Hall got to challenge Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title.

That would have sucked... bad. WCW would have died an even faster death.

TNA is in the process of destroying their top monster baby face, Samoa Joe. Six months ago, at Slammiversary in Nashville Tennessee, it was the perfect time for Samoa Joe to finally win the big one. It was time for Samoa Joe to win the World Championship.

At Slammiversary, Kurt Angle won the World Championship. Over the next couple of months, Kurt Angle would beat Joe and take every single belt in TNA as his own. Samoa Joe was so over with the TNA fans... that Olympic Gold Medalist and former WWE Champion Kurt Angle had to turn heel. Joe has been made to look weak.

Two years ago, "Joe is gonna kill you." rang loud and clear from the fans every time Joe hit the ring. Not so much any more. I cannot remember the last time I heard that chant.

At Turning Point, Joe delivered an impassioned speech about sacrificing for the good of the company. Joe delivered an amazing promo about the hard work of the X-Division. It was a simply fantastic speech that left fans saying, "Joe is absolutely right! This is why we trust Joe."

So, what does TNA do? The past two weeks, Joe has cut selfish promos that make it look like he is about to turn heel. Meanwhile, the guy Samoa Joe beat cleanly two months ago, Christian Cage, will be in the main event at Final Resolution wrestling for the TNA World Title against Kurt Angle.

TNA making Samoa Joe into a bad guy is not going to make me hate Samoa Joe. Turning Samoa Joe into a bad guy makes me apathetic to the TNA product.

With all of that said I may buy the Final Resolution PPV. I want to see the Motorcity Machineguns and Team 3D in an Ultimate X match. As of right now, that is the only match I am interested in seeing. I don't know if I want to pay $30 for one match... that may not even go 10-minutes.
