Bits and Pieces

Just a short update today...

When I was in college, close to a decade ago, the hot trend in was for college weight rooms and sport teams to be using the BFS - bigger, faster, stronger program. The hot new program making the rounds is SPARQ training - speed, power, agility, reaction, quickness. The BFS system is still widely used. It is a solid program. SPARQ training is connected with Nike sport camps and has the inside track on today's top young athletes.

I am firm believer that you have to keep your eyes and ears open for new techniques, lifts, drills, exercises. I have seen too many people say, "This is how we did it XX years ago and we were successful."

Times change. Science discovers new ways to train. I remember hearing many coaches say, "You can't teach speed."

That is dead wrong. You absolutely CAN teach speed.

Guess what? Every single Olympic/World Class sprinter has a coach. If you cannot teach speed, then why on earth would a world class sprinter have a coach?

Speed is just like anything else. You can become a more efficient runner. You can learn ways to improve your stride. You can work through drills that help develop all facets of movement.

Anyway, now back to your normally scheduled day.
