| Chris Cruit's face, chest, and back did a lot of damage to the elbow and forearm of Mark Mattis. |
On Thursday night in Chillicothe, I squared off against IWA US Champion Chris Cruit. There were special stipulations added to the match 1) leaving the ring to stall would result in an automatic disqualification and the title could change hands on a disqualification. With those stipulations added to the match, Chris Cruit had a very slim shot of retaining his US Title.
I did not steam roll over him by any stretch of the imagination. But, keeping him in the ring was a sufficient enough equalizer that in the end, I was able to prevail. I am now (for the second time) IWA US Champion. You can see highlights of my title victory -
here.
On Saturday, I got my first opportunity to defend the US Title. I wrestled Judas Thorn in the main event in front of roughly 150 fans. Judas is a big fellow. He is 6'2" and 320 pounds. Judas Thorn has a nasty mean streak and is extremely agile for his size.
I was on the receiving end of power moves I haven't taken in years. I was on the receiving end of power moves I had NEVER taken before. I am 6'1" and 235 pounds. Judas Thorn tossed me around like a rag doll. I was able to get in enough offense to stun the big guy and secure the win. I hit the "Mattis Driver" (hammer lock head scissor pile driver) for the pin.
Unfortunately, my camera did not get any footage from the match. If I had any footage, I would post it. Now, it is a couple of days later and I still feel like I stood in front of a freight train. I am beaten and bruised. I am grateful to have a few weeks to recover.
It was an extremely taxing weekend both emotionally and physically.
