On Saturday afternoon, we had to leave the Green and White Spring Football game at halftime. We had to get back to Jamestown for the youth football and
Heartland Wrestling Association fundraiser.
By the time we arrived in Jamestown, the ring was already set up and most of the wrestlers had arrived. I was exhausted and my joints were stiff. I wasn't sure if I was going to wrestle or not.
The event was successful. We had 160 to 180 fans in the stands. That is ok. But, I know we can do better next year. The wheels are already in motion to make sure that next time we have a packed house.
The main event featured me and a fellow youth football coach against HWA Icon, Cody Hawk and the 21-year-old phenom, Jon Moxley. This was the second time I have been in the ring with Cody Hawk.
I wrestled him in Kentucky about 5-years ago in a singles match. Cody had just recently lost the HWA Heavyweight Championship. I dominated him from the opening bell. I had the match well in-hand. I was about to put Cody in the figure-four and end it when... I tripped... and fell into a small package pin. I have never forgotten that. (angry fist)
Flash forward to Saturday night, vengeance was mine! Well, I did manage to hit a drop toehold, arm drag, hip toss, dropkick and assortment of other offensive maneuvers. I pulled a reversal out of the closet and dusted it off. I hadn't done the hiptoss - front flip - clothesline... in several years.
The kids loved it. Everyone went home happy. Good times.
On Sunday, we were out and about all day. We got some shopping done. The boy picked up a Sonjay Dutt action-figure. Mini-Mattis loves the flippies. We had a nice lunch. Then, we visited the batting cages. Mini-Mattis found his stroke in the 30-mph cage. He looked good. I hacked, whiffed, and bruised my hands fouling off the 80-mph pitches.
From there, we hit UDF and had some ice cream. After ice cream, Mini-Mattis and I played some indoor basketball and playstation. It was just a great day of family time. It was a great weekend.
