This is a fundraiser to support Jamestown Youth Football. Jamestown is an hour south of Columbus - an hour north of Cincinnati - and about 45-minutes east of Dayton. I invite everyone to come out and enjoy a fun night of wrestling action.
As a wrestler, I have to say this is bar none the best atmosphere you can experience. The gymnasium will be packed with somewhere more than 100 five to twelve-year-old kids. They boo all of the bad guys. They cheer for all of the good guys. The event is being held to raise funds for the kids. But, the truth be told, the reaction generated by those kids is astounding. There is simply an unbelievable energy in the air.
Moving on...
Mini-Mattis received his report card on Friday. After two narrow misses earlier this year, Mini-Mattis got straight A's. I am very proud of him. For as hard we push him athletically - we push him harder academically. I sit at the kitchen table and help him with spelling, writing, reading, and math several times each and every week. He worked his tail off to for his grades.
Speaking of Mini-Mattis, we found ourselves in Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday. He asked if he could climb the wall. For Mini-Mattis, the wall represents self-confidence much more so than a physical challenge. Yesterday, Mini-Mattis scaled the wall in under two-minutes. He is starting to believe in himself.
One more note on Mini-Mattis... he was playing around the other day after school. He was jumping on and off of furniture being a typical kid. Then, he kicked it into the next gear. He bet me that he could stand 6" away from my bed and vertical jump onto my bed and landing on his feet. I said, "There is no way on earth you can do it, but go ahead."
He did it. He successfully landed on his feet on the very first try. I was in disbelief. My bed is high off of the ground. I went to garage and found a tape measure. It is 30" from the floor to the top of the bed. At 8 years old - from standing still - he leapt over two and a half feet into the air to land back in a standing position on the bed. That stunned me. Anyway, the little guy caught me by surprise. He is growing up so fast.
I hope to see everyone this Saturday night!
