| Mini-Mattis is growing once again. But, how dated are these charts?
|
Young Cie Mattis seems to be growing again. Cie is 7-years-old. Cie recently needed new shoes. My wife took him to the store. We made a startling discovery. He now wears the same size shoe as my wife.
Over this past weekend, I noticed that his pants were hedging toward "high waters". It appears it is time once again to bump him up a pants size. He will be moving up to size 10.
We decided to check his hieght and weight. Cie is now 4' 5" and 70 pounds. According to a youth growth chart; he ranks in the 92nd precentile of height and the 91th precentile of weight.
So, Cie is supposedly taller than 91 out of 100 children. I have seen Cie play with his friends. He is not the tallest. He seems to be of average height. Likewise, he was light weight enough to carry the ball in his football league. He was not the smallest or lightest kid on the team. Not was he the tallest or heaviest.
So, I must ask, where are these 91 children who are shorter than Cie? Where are the 90 children who are lighter than Cie? Is there some small (pun intended) village where all of the under-sized children live? Is that what they mean by "Little China" and "Little Italy"?
Come on!
Quick story...
Last week, when it was nice and warm outside... Cie and I played
1-on-1 football in the yard. Of course, I am running 1/2 speed making
him work on his angles and what-not. He has the ball and is running
toward the sideline... I head toward the sideline at about 1/2 speed to
cut him off. Just as I reached him... he cut back - at full speed. He
was gone.
Even at 1/2 speed I couldn't change directions fast enough to get a
finger on him.
That was a mixture of good and bad. On one hand, I am happy that he is
developing the footwork necessary to pull off that kind of move. On the
other hand, I got juked out of my jock by a 7-year-old.
The sad thing is... he did it to me 2 or 3 more times before we finished playing.
