| Mini-Mattis with his "game face" on |
It is that time of year again - football practices have been underway for the past several weeks. The official season is nearly upon us. I am not wrestling anywhere for anyone. I am home with my family having fun just being a dad.
At the tender age of seven, Mini-Mattis is entering his third season of football. After playing defensively as a cornerback for the previous two seasons Mini-Mattis has moved to outside linebacker. He has also earned the starting tight end spot.
This past Saturday, the wee Rams played a preseason tune up game. The wee Rams and the wee Indians met last year in the playoffs. The Rams won the game 26-0 eliminating the Indians from the playoffs. On Saturday, August 19th the Indians would seek a measure of revenge.
Neither team was able to mount much offense in the first quarter. It appeared that the game would be scoreless headed into the second quarter. However, with three seconds left on the clock, the wee Rams quarterback dodged defenders and sprinted into the end zone to break the deadlock.
In the second quarter, the wee Rams added a second touchdown. The third quarter brought on two more wee Ram scores. In the end, the wee Rams charged forward to 27 points while the wee Indians smoke signals indicated 0.
Mini-Mattis continues to improve. He is aggressive. He did 'ok' flowing to the ball as an outside linebacker. He excelled blocking as a tight end. Three of the teams four touchdowns were run to Mini-Mattis's side of the field.
Mini-Mattis and I have reviewed the game film several times. There are some humorous moments on tape that I did not catch during the live game.
1. Mini-Mattis made the left outside linebacker fly. Mini-Mattis delivered a full speed shot that took the LOLB off of his feet and onto his back.
2. On another play, an angry LOLB sprinted toward Mini-Mattis will ill intentions. The LOLB exploded into Mini-Mattis, bounced off, and fell on his facemask. Mini-Mattis laid on top of him.
3. Mini-Mattis and Mini-LR550 (right tackle) combined to double-team the defensive end. The blocked him to the ground. Several defenders flowed toward them in pursuit of the ball carrier. The defenders tripped over the downed defensive end and created quite a wee pile.
This week, the eight game regular season kicks off with the wee Rams on the road. I will be at the game with my family. I will be there cheering for the wee Rams.
