NEWS & NOTES

2006.03.28
In a bit of wrestling news, Shank Dorsey may be restarting FIW. Fire and Ice Wrestling is the promotion that gave me my start. It will be interesting to see if the pieces fall into place and Shank (who is a turd) becomes an evil promoter.

On a similar note, I have heard that local Ultimate Fighter (as seen on UFC PPVs) "The Project" Wes Simms may be running events in the near future. Is pro-wrestling once again on the rise?

On to the work out related stuff...

I had a good weekend. I went for a nice run on Saturday. I went for a nice run on Sunday. I visited with family. I got some much-needed rest.

On Monday morning, I woke up before 5 AM. We lifted 'back'. Our back routine consisted of:

3x5 wide grip pull-ups
3x10 shrugs
3x5 hang cleans
3x10 laying pull
2x10, 1x8 one-arm snatch
Teardown - pull downs

It was a good workout. My back was extremely tight after two days of running. The workout did a good job of loosening me up. Or so I thought...

13-hours later, I was back in the gym helping my wife teach gymnastics. I mostly there to spot a couple of grade school girls on backhand springs and whatnot. All was going well until I felt something in my back "snap".

Being a macho guy, I did let on that I was hurt. I continued to spot the 50-pound kids. By the time the kids left, I was in so much pain that I could barely breath. I could not bend. I could not turn. I could barely walk. I could not allow my arms to swing as I walked... I had to hold my arms motionless at my side. I was scared. The pain knifed across my lower back from one side to the other.

I loaded up on ibuprofen and tried not to move for the remainder of the evening. I iced my back 3 times. I could not find a comfortable position. I was in pain standing, sitting, or laying down.

I did manage to get some sleep. This morning, my wife had to help me out of bed. My 7-year-old son helped me get my socks and shoes on. I cannot take a "sick day" today - that is out of the question. I have to persevere.

My son is on spring break this week. He and I are getting a cabin in the Hocking Hills for a couple of days. Mini-Omega and I are planning a trip to Athens to watch the Ohio Bobcats baseball team. Thursday, we plan to watch the Ohio Bobcats football team in spring practice. On Friday, we may take in a track meet. I am also aware that Ice Age 2 hits theaters on Friday.

Mini-Mattis and I should have a great few days together. I am not going to let anything get in the way of that. So, I just have to suck it up and keep going.
