NFL: Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals
A new NFL season is underway. Optimism abounds! Anything can happen. The Browns have a new head coach. The Browns have a new defensive scheme. The Browns have a lot of new players. The climb back to medicore begins on Sunday!
NCAA: Bobcats vs. Panthers
Tonight at 8 PM on ESPN 2, my alma mater, Ohio University will face the University of Pittsburgh. It is rare that my Bobcats get national TV exposure. My VCR is set to record the game. Ordinarily, I would expect the Panthers to roll through the Bobcats. However, things are different this season. Frank Solich is a big name coach. He is a good coach. Pittsburgh is now under the leadership of Dave Wannstedt.
Brief football factoid:
Dave Wannstedt comes from the Jimmy Johnson (Dallas Cowboys) coaching tree. The Cowboys had a great run in the early to mid-1990's. Many of the assistants and coordinators received head-coaching jobs. The assistants and coordinators all universally failed as head coaches.
Dave Wannstedt was the Chicago Bears head coach. The Bears were awful. He was fired. Dave Wannstedt was later given a chance to redeem himself with the Miami Dolphins. He failed as head coach in Miami. Now, he is head coach of Pitt. I wonder how he will fare?
Last week, in the season opener, Notre Dame thrashed Pitt. The Bobcats are not a strong team. The Bobcats are perennial cellar dwellers. But, with Dave Wannstedt leading Pitt, my Bobcats stand a chance. I have to tape the game. I will not be able to watch it live as it happens.
H.S. Varsity: Rams vs. Warriors
Tonight, I will be in the press box with a head set on helping to direct defensive action for the Rams. Tonight, we have a legitimate opportunity to win. The kids know it. They are excited. They have worked hard all week long in preparation. The kids deserve some success. I hope they find it tonight.
H.S. JV Rams vs. Warriors
Tomorrow morning I have to be on the bus at 7:45 AM. We have our first JV game of the season scheduled for 9:30 AM. I will be calling the defense by myself for the first time. That is scary... I am still struggling with some of the positional responsibilities. I have never been a part of a defensive scheme like this. We are running a 3-5.
PeeWee: Rams vs. ???
Tomorrow at 2 PM, Mini-Omega is on the road. I will hop off of the JV bus and drive an hour plus to arrive at Mini-Omega's game by kickoff. Well, 6-year-olds don't actually kick. But, I hope to arrive before the game starts.
Starting at about 4 PM today and running through 5 PM tomorrow, I will eat, sleep, and live football. Tomorrow evening, I want to relax. I do not know when I will take the time to watch the Bobcats vs. Panthers game.
I am doing my best to stay active and in shape. I am maintaining a light lifting schedule 3 times per week. On Wednesday night, I went for a 1.5-mile jog. It was awful. Last night, I ran hard for 1 mile and rode my mountain bike for 3 miles. Mini-Omega did all 4-miles on his bike. It was his first real ride without training wheels or a parental safety net. He did fantastic.

It is September - the Cleveland Indians are currently leading the wildcard chase for entry to MLB playoffs. The Indians are a half game up on the evil Yankees. It is a great time to be a sports fans.
Plans are in the works to shoot a new Faberville. I really like the concept. The challenging part is fitting filming into my schedule.
I am a big fan of the Dilbert comic strip. There are 2 new comic strips that have caught my attention. "Unfit" and "Pearls before Swine" are tremendously funny.
Today is my Mom's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!
