Friday night was pretty much what I expected. It was painful. I feel badly for the juniors and seniors on the team. They have tremendous heart. They desperately want to succeed.
It poured down rain all through out the game. The rain ended almost as soon as the final whistle blew. Everyone was soaked from head to toe. Well, almost everyone. The offensive coordinator and I were still in the booth above the field. We were completely dry. We were sure to point that out to the other, very soggy, coaches.
On Saturday, we broke down film and prepared this week's game plan. From there, Mini-Omega's team played the Lebanon in exciting peewee football action. The Lebanon coaches exemplified every poor behavior imaginable. Guys like that should NOT be allowed to work with kids.
My son plays for a decent (the Rams) team. All of the kids on the team range from Kindergarten to 2nd grade. These kids are 5, 6, and 7 years old. The goal is to make the game fun.
The Rams scored 2 (80 yard) touchdowns within the first 3 or 4 plays. This infuriated the Lebanon coaches. They started yelling at the kids for missing tackles and making mistakes. They were not teaching. They were yelling. The coaches started grabbing kids by the facemask, jersey and anything else they could get their hands on. One Lebanon coach started throwing towels and water bottles.
At this point, one of the Lebanon players (acting on the coaches instruction) delivered a cheap shot blow to one of the Rams players. The (6-year-old) kid was instantly ejected. The referee's flagged the coachÕs 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct.
Apparently, something very similar to this happened at the Lebanon game last week. One of their coaches was serving a suspension for his actions last week and unable to join in this weeks festivities. Our head coach has to write an incident report.
The Lebanon coaches took the game WAY too seriously. Their kids were NOT having fun. Some of those kids will probably walk away from football forever after this season. That is unfortunate.
