Saying Goodbye...
2004.09.20
It is over. The final Gym Wars is in the books. (To read last weeks column - click here.)
I didn't get to watch any of the action. So, here is my abbreviated run down:
Bull Miller defeated Quickberg. This should have been main event. This match WAS Gym Wars.
There was a youth wrestling exhibition.
Freakboy defeated The Mutilator. No offense, I don't think Mutilator had ever wrestled a Gym Wars match before. Maybe I wrong.
Elliot Michaels defeated JC-Bones-Turbo-Something-er-other. I was disappointed that The HolyMan stayed home.
"The Omega" Mark Mattis (accompanied by The Pledge) defeated "Slammin" Sammy Simpleton. This was a 17-minute marathon in true Gym Wars fashion. Of the 17-minutes spent in the ring; there *MIGHT* have been 2 minutes of wrestling.
Matt Mason punked-out DDK. Ha!
Chris Cruit defeated The Buckeye Brawler.
CO Hustler defeated Rok Wyler.
Devlin "I'm not really an" Anderson beat my hero Aaron Andrews. "Hardcore" Tommy Chill delivered chokeslams to both Devlin and Aaron to end the card.
The night really wasn't about wrestling. It didn't really matter who won or who lost. It was good to see everyone again. It was nice for everyone to get together one last time. We gave the gym a fitting send off. I am glad I was part of it. Gym Wars number one fan, Ted was even on hand.
It was great to see Mace Parker, "Killer" Kyle, Jeremy Madrox, and Matt Mason. I only see these guys about once per year - if that. It was cool have dinner with Tommy and Natasha Chill, Cyrus Poe, DDK, Devlin "I am riding someone else's gimmick" Anderson, Mr. & Mrs. Hairy Imp.
Sunday morning, I woke up feeling like poop. My immune system was not able to combat the evil IWA Gym toxins. I was sneezing dirt and grime all morning. Tommy Chill was already developing a rash as we sat at dinner. Good times.
Sunday's Faberville shooting was rushed. I have not looked at the footage yet. I have a feeling; we will be reshooting the short in a couple of weeks. *Sigh*.
