It was a very depressing week... from a wrestling standpoint.
The IWA no longer has a weekly venue for TV tapings. In one way this is a funny story. Allow me to explain... I have been on an undefeated streak in the IWA since my in-ring return in August. In December, I was named IWA's first ever "wrestler of the month". The IWA started weekly events in Columbus on Friday January 23rd. The schedule of matches was released about a week prior to the event. I was not scheduled for the first TV taping. No big deal, I was scheduled to wrestle in Texas the following evening. I had to catch an early Saturday flight. I was promised, "We will use you next week."
Well, there was a freak snowstorm on January 23rd. It took me two hours to drive home. Virtually no fans showed up for the IWA event. Week #2 of TV tapings rolled around... Since the first event was essentially cancelled due to weather issues, the IWA decided to hold over all of the matches from week #1. The matches that were supposed to happen on 1/23 were rescheduled for 1/30. So, for the second consecutive week, I was not booked at the TV taping. No big deal. I used the opportunity to wrestle as part of Heartland Wrestling Association's (2/1) Stripped Down Sunday.
Week #3 rolls around... I have a Saturday booking in North Carolina. My flight leaves EARLY Saturday morning. I tell the IWA "I have a rough weekend ahead of me. How about booking me for the 2/13 TV taping?" they respond "Sure. Sounds good."
I return from North Carolina on Sunday morning. Monday evening, I called the IWA to find out if I was indeed FINALLY booked for one of their TV tapings. They respond, "Well, you would have been. We lost the building. So, no you are not booked."
I have a theory why they lost the building... On Friday (2/6) Devlin Anderson and Homicide engaged in a brutal brawl. Both of them bled heavily. Following the main event, Jabari took the IWA championship belt and cracked Chris Cruit's cranium. Cruit bled like a stuck pig. Cruit needed stitches. I don't think it was a coincidence that the owner no longer felt comfortable with the IWA holding events in his building. But, that is just my opinion.
I was supposed to wrestle in North Carolina again this past weekend. Unfortunately, the promoter has a personal issue that requires his undivided attention. The event was cancelled. I totally understand.
There were also some depressing conversations related to other wrestling matters. I can't go into the details at the moment. But suffice to say it was not a fun week for wrestling.
I did enjoy my weekend. I didn't do much. I laid around the house. I did some work on the computer. I finished watch season three of "The Family Guy". I played a little "Simpson's Hit & Run". I lifted weights. I did some cardio. I played with my son. It was a nice relaxing weekend.
