Yesterday, I wrestled at HWA's Stripped Down Sunday event. Unlike last time, Cyrus Poe was not with me. A couple weeks ago, the BBC made the trip to Cincinnati. In our first HWA match, we faced the HWA tag team champions. Nothing like starting off against the best of the best.
This week I was on my own. I wrestled a singles match. But, the competition didn't get any easier. I wrestled in the main event against "High IQ" Quinten Lee. Quinten is the current reigning HWA TV Champion. I first met Quinten a couple of years ago. I met Quinten shortly after he started training with HWA. Over the course of several months, I spent numerous hours in the ring with Quinten. I grew familiar with him and his style.
On Sunday, Quinten and I faced off in a real match for the first time ever. His TV title was not on line. I didn't expect it to be. Quinten is somewhat of a weasel. I can't say I entirely blame him. Quinten has to defend the title every week at the TV tapings. With that in mind, there is no way on earth he was going to put the belt on the line at this non-televised event.
It was a back and forth match. Somewhere along the way Quinten caught me in a body scissors submission. Between that and the abdominal stretch, I was fighting for wind. I finally saw daylight... Quinten attempted to shoot me across the ring. I reversed it and locked in the sleeper hold. Quinten frantically tried to make it to the ropes. He failed. His body fell limp. Senior referee Joe Kopaz: lifted his arm... drop... 1 lifted his arm... drop... 2... lifted his arm... drop... 3! I win! I win!
I was still in a good deal of pain. Did I mention the fans hate Quinten? Well, they do. I asked the fans, "Should I wake him up?" Their response was a resounding... "NO!" So, I didn't wake him up. I left him there. I left him sleeping in the middle of the ring.
Referee Joe Kopaz placed the TV Title on Quinten's chest before he left the ring. Quinten was left peacefully sleeping. The building cleared as fans headed for the parking lot and still he slept. The wrestlers packed up and headed to their cars and still he slept. As I left the arena, they were shutting off the lights and getting ready to lock the doors... and Quinten was still sleeping in the middle of the ring. I sure hope he didn't miss the Super Bowl...
Non-wrestling news
I watched season 1 & 2 of "The Family Guy" on DVD. I will watch season 3 over the next week. Season 1 was okay. It was far from great. But, the second half of season 2 things started to get really funny.
I just purchased "Ed Wood" and "Dilbert: The Entire Series" on DVD. I can't wait to watch those DVDs.
I also picked up 6 new books. Four of the books are about wrestling, go figure. That reminds me... I have been a DirecTV customer for close to a year. I was surfing through the channels on Saturday and stumbled on to CMLL. Lucha Libre! Sweet. Lucha Libre is on several times per week. I need to stock up on blank videotapes and break out the old VCR.
Upcoming weekend
This weekend I will wrestle in North Carolina for the (IWAS) Independent Wrestling All-Stars. The last time I wrestled in North Carolina, I had a blast. I am in much better physical condition and ring shape now than I was last time. It will be interesting to see how I stack up to the competition this go round.
