Semi-Pro football attracts all sorts of characters. Guys feed their egos by catching passes and sprinting for the goal. Other guys feed off of intensity, burying opposing players in the grass field. Players run their mouths. There is no shortage of "trash talking". Tempers flare. There is always at least 1 fight.
This past weekend we ran into a team with untold heart and class. There were no four-letter words. There were no late hits. There wasn't any "trash talk".
This past weekend, the Central Ohio Lions traveled to Fort Recovery, Ohio to play the Jay County Cougars. Game time was 5 PM. The temperature was close to 90 degrees. There was no breeze to speak of. There were no clouds in the sky. The instant you stepped into the sun, you started to sweat and burn.
The Cougars are a new team. They have a small team. Their entire team consists of 17 players. Several Cougar players must stay on the field for offense, defense, and special teams. Oh yeah, they don't have any coaches. They coach themselves.
On Saturday afternoon, those guys came to play. They pushed and tried the whole game. They never gave up. They deserve credit for effort.
Final Score:
Central Ohio Lions 45
Jay County Cougars 0
