There hasn't been a whole lot to report about football as of late. We continue to practice every week. We inch closer to the regular season. Our first game is on Saturday July 26th.
Next Sunday will be our final 'regular' practice prior to the start of the season. There will be only light contact. We won't be killing each other. We will be putting the final touches on a long and grueling preseason.
I had a very good practice yesterday. I caught the ball well. I did very well during the scrimmage. I need that momentum from yesterday to carry over into the season.
I am an offensive player. I will likely start at "tight end". Either way, I am sure I will be on the field for no less than 50% of the offensive plays.
Following practice yesterday, the defensive coordinator singled me out. He would like me to come to the "defense only" practice later this week. He has invited me to learn the defense. I will be learning the "safety" and possibly "outside linebacker" responsibilities.
I do not expect to play on the first team defense. I do expect to learn the responsibilities. I expect to play about 10% to 20% of defensive plays. I will enter the game, allowing the first team safety to catch a breather.
I also have some special team's responsibility. I will be playing a brunt of the offense, some defense, and some special teams. So, at the end of games, I am going to thoroughly exhausted.
I can't wait.
