When I first set out to update this week, I planned to respond to Shank Dorsey's comments about our match this past Saturday. The Fraternity fought the good fight against Shank & Dale. VCW played host in Troy Ohio at the Miami County Fairgrounds. The match really didn't amount to anything special. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. Shank rated the match a 6. That sounds fair enough. I have seen the tape. I would probably rank the match about a 4 or a 5 at best. Shank was being generous to rate it a 6. Shank and Dale are both great workers. For whatever reason, things didn't click on Saturday night. I still had fun. I still made every effort to enjoy myself.
Roughly a dozen fans stuck around after the event to meet some of the wrestlers. I happily signed autographs and chatted with the fans. One fan even followed me to my car as he continued to compliment me on the match. The fans were satisfied. That is all that really matters. The fans came out in hot weather to a builing that lacks running water. They cheered. They boo'ed. They made the best of the circumstances. I really don't have anything else to say about the event.
This Friday, the IWA returns to Washington CH, Ohio. I am slated to be in tag-team action with Zach Avery against The Poe Boys. The Fraternity and The Poe Boys in Washington CH! It should be a hum-dinger. A victory over The Poe Boys would move us one step closer to the Tag-Team titles currently held by Simply Fabulous.
I am going to switch gears now...
There is a lot of "down time" in the wrestling business. It usually takes a couple hours to drive to an event. Then, you sit in the locker room for several hours. You wrestle for 10-minutes. You sit in the locker room a while longer. You drive a couple hours to get home. I repeat, there is a lot of "down time" in the wrestling business.
I don't when it happened exactly. I don't know why it happened. I can't say I am all that upset that it happened. I don't watch much TV. Don't get me wrong, I watch parts of Raw and SmackDown. I will watch cartoons with my son. I will watch an occasional DVD. In the course of an average week, I probably spend 5 hours in front of a TV. I am not even necessarily watching it when it is on.
What do I do with my time? I play with my son. I exercise. I read.
I read both books (Have a Nice Day and Foley is Good) written by Mick Foley. Both are very well written. They are entertaining and serve as a very fast read.
I recently picked up Tommy Billington's (Dynamite Kid) autobiography. While I was a child, he was one of my favorite performers. The book is a pretty quick read.
I am almost finished reading Tributes by Dave Meltzer. It is a series of short biographies on some of the larger names in the business that passed away. The books covers such performers as: Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Andre the Giant, Rick Rude, Giant Baba, Big John Studd, Fritz Von Erich, Kerry Von Erich, Ray Stevens, Art Barr, Eddie Gilbert, etc. It never ceases to amaze me how fast and short of a life many wrestlers lead.
Anyway until next time... take care of yourselves
