VCW, This Saturday

2002.06.18

This Saturday at the Miami County Fairgrounds in Troy Ohio, "The Fraternity" (Zach Avery / Mark Mattis) will face "The Convicts" (Shank Dorsey & Dale Johnson) for the VCW tag team titles. The doors open a 6:00 PM and bell time is set for 7:00 PM. I suspect the rest of the card will contain some of the following wrestlers: Al B. Damm; "Fabulous" Frederick of Hollywood; Logan Caine; Suicide Solution; Mike West; Rick Burn; Crypt; and Porno The Clown. As usual, I am sure there will be plenty of blood spilled.

It has been nearly a year since my last in-ring encounter with Shank & Dale. The last time we met in tag team action, Al B. Damm and I defeated Shank & Dale in the center of the ring. A good time was had by all.

Shank & Dale are an "interesting" combination. Dale is a great wrestler. Many people take him for granted when they see his 170lb. frame. Many wrestlers have made the mistake. Dale Johnson is a tremendous competitor.

Shank Dorsey has a long and brutal history in hardcore matches. He participated in IWA MidSouth's "King of the Death Match" tournament. He has all of the scars to prove it. At one point, following a nasty fall, it appeared Shank was going to be forced to retire. He managed to land on his head and cause a "brain bleed". Shank has toned down his sheninanigans quite a bit. He is now content to stand on the apron and watch Dale wrestle. Shank Dorsey is nothing more a fan that gets to stand on the apron. A new term has been developed as a result. To 'Shank Dorsey' a match is to stand on the apron and be involved for no more than 2 minutes.

  • Wrestler1: "Man he sure did 'Shank Dorsey' that match."
  • Wreslter2: "Yeah, what jerk."

The only time Dorsey gets involved the match is when Dale is ready to put the opposition away. Shank will tag, hit his signature bossman-slam err... 'lights out' followed by I-wish-I-were-as-cool-as-Hogan-legdrop and promptly tags out.

None of that really matters. What does matter... VCW is "Yardbird Posse" territory. The "Yardbird Posse" should be close to full strength this weekend. What does that mean? It means, this is an event you don't want to miss.
